SALT AND WATER EVAPORATION. Stir a pinch of salt into a teaspoonful of water. Place the water-filled spoon on a plate. Let it stand for two days. The water will evaporate.
Question--Where is the salt?
Answer -- In the spoon.
EVAPORATION. Take two jars. Fill them to the same level with water . Cover one. Leave the other open. Let them stand for two days.
Question -- Which one has more water in it?
Answer -- The covered jar.
GROUNDWATER. Fill a glass with sand. Pour water into the glass.
Question -- Where did the water go?
Answer -- Between the grains of sand.
EVAPORATION AND HEAT. Put a spoonful of water in a cup. Put the cup in a warm place. Put another spoonful of water in another cup. Place the cup in a cool spot.
Question -- From which cup does the water evaporate first?
Answer -- From the cup in the warm place.
PURIFYING WATER. Put some soil into a jar of water. Cover and shake the jar. The water becomes muddy. Let the jar stand for two days.
Question -- What happens to the water? What happens to the soil?
Answer -- The water becomes clear. The soil has settled at the bottom of the jar.
